It was in the year 1966 that his father Thoogudeepa Srinivas acted and gained fame. He was not in favour of his son following the same path and joining the entertainment industry, yet Darshan enrolled himself into Ninasam, a theatre training institute, in Shimoga before his father passed in the year 1995. Soon after completion of his education, Darshan Thoogudeepa began to work as a projectionist prior to taking on the role of assistant cameraman for experienced cinematographer B. C. Gowrishankar. His initial acting role was in a television soap created by S. Narayan. Narayan subsequently provided him with a supporting part in his 1997 movie Mahabharatha. Darshan later appeared in movies like Devara Maga (2000), Ellara Mane Dosenu (2000), Bhoothayyana Makkalu (2000), and Mr. Harishchandra (2001), primarily in minor and supporting, often brief roles. During this time, he also took on small parts in various television soaps and worked as a voice actor for several cartoons.

With time and over the years of hard work he became a well-established actor. Since all these years he has produced several blockbuster movies. On 1 March 2019, his 51st film Yajamana premiered, marking Darshan’s largest box office debut. Accused of Domestic Violence

In September 2011, Darshan’s spouse complained to him, alleging that he committed domestic violence. A case of attempted murder was also lodged against him. He was later apprehended and required to spend 14 days in judicial detention at Parappana Agrahara Jail, Bangalore.

Accused of Rash Driving

In 2018, while he was traveling in an SUV with his friend Antony, their vehicle crashed into a street light. The passersby claimed that Darshan was behind the wheel. Nonetheless, his companion Anthony Roy was charged under IPC (Indian Penal Code – Section 279) for reckless driving. 

Assaulted a Waiter

In 2021, he faced allegations of assaulting a waiter at a hotel in Mysuru. Subsequently, individuals who were present during the incident claimed that the local police had resolved the case by providing him with Rs 50,000. In November 2023, a woman brought a lawsuit against Darshan for directing his dogs to assault her. She requested Darshan to relocate his three dogs from her vicinity. Nonetheless, Darshan initiated a dispute with her, which caused the event to occur.

On 26 February 2023, at a pub, a businessman named Yeshwant asked the DJ to play tracks by the Indian actor Puneeth Rajkumar. Subsequently, an FIR was filed against Darshan and his associates.

Arrested in Murder Case

On June 11, 2024, he was detained in Mysuru in connection with a murder investigation. The police report states that Darshan murdered Renuka Swamy from Chitradurga due to his involvement in the online harassment of Pavithra Gowda, who is believed to be Darshan’s girlfriend. In September 2024, the Karnataka Police submitted a 3,991-page indictment against the pair. They asserted having obtained 232 pieces of proof against the defendant. The report stated that bloodstains found on the shirts and shoes of Darshan and Pavithra corresponded to Swamy’s blood.
